Thyroid is not a disease, it's a gland situated in the neck on anterior aspect. The thyroid gland produces T3 and T4 hormones in sufficient quantities.
When the thyroid gland produces less or insufficient T3 and T4 hormones then it is called hypothyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism s a condition where the thyroid gland produces excess amount of thyroid hormone i.e. T3 and T4. Weight loss, palpitation, sweating, restlessness are some of the common symptoms.
It is diagnosed by a simple blood test & thyroid scan. Initially it is treated with pill for one to two years and then by radioactive iodine therapy or sometimes surgical removal of thyroid gland.
