Stress Test and Treadmill Test is used to determine how well your heart responds during times when its working its hardest.
Stress test is done by attaching you with ECG leads and making you walk on a treadmill machine.
Firstly machine calculates your target heart rate depending on your age. You will be asked to walk or run on a treadmill for 5-15 minutes till you reach your target heart rate.
As your heart beats further, your heart requires more oxygen and blood flow to compensate for its requirement.
If your heart blood vessels are clogged then the heart muscle will get less oxygen. At this point, an ECG tracing shows a heart attack pattern and the doctor diagnose you with coronary heart disease. It is advisable to stress test when you are confused with heart-related symptoms are from the heart itself or from muscle or rib cage.
